Is the City business friendly “Good Question”
I can’t think of a single governmental agency that is truly business friendly. The very nature and mission of nearly every governmental agency, whether local, state or federal is to regulate and enforce and that is never conducive to free market activities. But to answer the question “Is the City business friendly” the simple answer is no. But as city council members we can work together to better provide direction and policies that perhaps could assist new and existing businesses navigate the multi level mine fields of bureaucracy that stand in the way of a good business idea. A strong business community creates jobs, jobs strengthen the economy and a strong economy will solve most fiscal problems. The bottom line is that being business friendly is in the best interest of the City and its citizens.
Here is what I offer Independence, experience and leadership
This is Rick Herrick and I am running for reelection to the Big Bear Lake City council. As we get closer to election day can you picture this, an election where all the candidates and their supporters stick to the issues and the mud is left on the ground, we can do this because Big Bear is a special place. Here is what I offer Independence, experience and leadership. I embrace the value of our mountains natural setting and will exert myself to make the City of Big Bear Lake a better place for its citizens and future generations. To accomplish this I believe that our city council must recognize that local jobs and our local economy are top issues, we must manage the city budget as tight fisted conservatives, we have to keep the state from upsetting our balanced budget by preventing their raids on our money, we must respect our business community and help promote job creation, we must promote smart city growth that improves our quality of life and we must prepare for what ever mother nature can dish out. You can get further information by going to my web site at elect-rick.com. Exercise your right to vote, and stay involved, I ask you for your support and vote on election day. My name is Rick Herrick thank you for listening.
The political season brings out the best and, at times, the worst in misinformation.
The political season brings out the best and, at times, the worst in misinformation. In response to last weeks “Point of View” in the Grizzly which was a mixture of some fact blended with supposition and misstatements, these are the clear facts. Candidate Rick Herrick for City Council has a fiscal voting and debating record that is undeniably conservative. Rick was better known as “Doctor NO” while serving at the Chamber of Commerce and at the DWP, his well known record of cost cutting, slashing the fat out of contract labor and questioning all expenses makes it very clear where Rick stands on waste, overspending and unnecessarily raising public revenues. It’s also clear that when push came to shove on getting our fair share of Big Bear’s fuel tax money for rebuilding our bridge his 15 year fight was worth the effort. Bridge closure is now no longer an option. City budgets are balanced in part due to a 14% cut in full time employees saving over $1 million a year. But the fight to keep Sacramento from further raiding our local money continues. And more hard work must be done with management and the union to return fiscal strength to our fire district. Plus, remember, even with declining revenues our city budget is balanced, building continues on conservative capital projects and our city services remain strong and effective; in part because of Rick Herrick, a small business owner and fiscal conservative. It’s time to re-elect Rick Herrick our fiscal conservative.
Sincerely George and Uli Crezee, Ken and Dottie Saville, Loren and Patty Hafen, Eric and Mary Anne Lewis, Garry and Patty Dokter, Ken and Karen Dally, Rick and Carolyn Epting and Cathy Herrick The Committee to Re-Elect Rick Herrick.
Please take the time to vote on November 2nd Election Day and I appreciate your support.
Big Bear is a great community and I’ve been proud to serve this community as Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem and most recently as a member of the City Council. We have faced many challenges together including major winter storms, droughts, earthquakes and wild fires but today some of our most challenging issues are due to a struggling state and federal economy. It hasn’t been easy but our city budgets remain balanced due cost cutting, finding efficiencies and ,over the years, rejecting all waste. But we face difficult times ahead with the threat of state raids on our local budgets. I believe in independence with the fiscal responsibility of a small business owner. Big Bear is a special place that draws millions of visitors each year to our natural environment, and I love what our outdoors has to offer. In the coming years we have the opportunity to enhance and protect our environment by providing a better outdoor experience for everyone. Please take the time to vote on November 2nd Election Day and appreciate your support.
Thank you for all your support
Thank you for all your support on my re-election campaign for the Big Bear Lake City Council. The kickoff party was a great success! Thank you for your help and now we are off to the races. As the election season heats up I will participate in the following political forums. I hope you can join me for either or both evenings. The debates should be lively as we possibly discuss such issues as our local economy, our tight city budgets, economic growth, creating jobs, natural disasters and positive campaign behavior.
Monday, September 20, Chamber of Commerce 2010 Candidate Forum; Performing Arts Center in Hofert Hall, Big Bear Lake. Meet and Greet at 5:45 pm then the forum begins around 6:00 pm with City Council followed by Bear Valley Unified School District at 8:00 pm.
Then:
Wednesday, September 22 - Lighthouse Voter Forum; Community Church by the Lake, starting at 7:00 pm
It didn’t take long for the mud to start flying so in an effort to keep my record straight here is the truth about my voting record. I fought to lower or eliminate proposed increases in fees and taxes. I have been in favor of letting the taxpayers decide on tax increases such as the Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT), which Big Bear voters passed in the last election. I have served on the Big Bear Area Regional Wastewater Agency for nearly 4 years and have never proposed or voted in favor of a rate increase. At BARWA, I fought hard to keep unnecessary, expensive and redundant systems from driving up the cost of service. Let’s keep our eye on the ball and remember that elections bring out the best and, at times, the worst in people. It’s time to keep moving forward with a positive message and with your help we can do our best to correct the worst.
